Started off SOOOOO SLOW! then she meets this loser at the laundry mat. I think to myself this is why I live at home still, I do NOT want to be out doing my laundry in a laundry mat, oh wait, I could still take my things home! but such an inconvenience, I hate just having to carry my basket downstairs hehehe. Anyways these thoughts are more interesting than the movie at this point.
Then there is a charming moment when this old guy (Steve Martin) buys a pair of black gloves from the shopgirl (Claire Danes) and then mails the package to her. The charm ends there.
Next notorious scene is a split scene with shopgirl talking to a couple of girls (assuming they are friends, it is the only time we see them) and old guy talking to another guy who may just be his shrink I'm not sure.
Anyway it is so degrading for me as a female to listen to her tell a lie to these girls. Unless she really is disillusioned in telling this tale. I for one would have been disgusted with old man's "speech" and never seen him again.
Movie overall - not a fan
What do I think of? a line from Celtic Woman's At the Ceili
"I’d rather have a man for love Than be a rich man’s lady"
Lesson here - good girls from Vermont just stay in Vermont :)
Only other thought is that As Good As It Gets is a much better movie. Nicholson's character said to Helen Hunt's character "You make me want to be a better man" and that for most women truly is as good as it gets.
I think that Dane's character really needed to be loved and felt what it means for a man to want to be a better man because of her. If she'd of already felt that love then she'd of been able to accept her relationship with him for what it was which was just eh like this movie.

Ahh I seen this long time ago but dont remember the details of it lol!
I really love Steve Martin, so I read this book a while ago. I don't remember all the details, but I do remember that I didn't like the book. I had no desire to see the movie, and you just sealed the deal.
